Qana, South Lebanon — Visitor Guide

The town revered by many as the Cana of the Gospel’s first miracle.

Qana is a historic town in south Lebanon, near Tyre and about 100 km from Beirut, revered by many Lebanese Christians as the Cana of the Gospels — the place where, by tradition, Jesus performed his first miracle, turning water into wine at a wedding feast. Its ancient rock-cut carvings and grotto make it a quiet, moving site of pilgrimage and heritage.

"Quick facts",

History & Significance

For centuries, a strong local tradition has identified Qana in south Lebanon with the Cana of Galilee named in the Gospel of John, where Jesus is said to have turned water into wine — his first miracle. Early Christian writers referred to a Cana in this region, and the town has been a place of Christian devotion ever since.
At the heart of the site is a rocky hillside and grotto, where a series of ancient carved reliefs — interpreted by many as depicting Jesus and his apostles — are cut into the stone. Together with nearby rock-cut tombs, they give Qana a deep sense of age and sanctity that draws pilgrims and visitors to the south.
